The Place
Wolfgang's Steakhouse is an upscale steakhouse-style restaurant in Beverly Hills. It is owned by Wolfgang Zwiener, not the Wolfgang Puck most of us are more familiar with. Zwiener's intriguing backstory: after 40 years as a waiter at one of the most celebrated NY steakhouses, he decided to open his own instead of retiring to a life of leisure. This is his only location on the West Coast. 

Their happy hour is daily from 4-8pm and features eight cocktails for $8, wine ($8), beer ($5), and seven food items for $8. 

Wolfgang's Steakhouse is a very upscale experience from the moment you walk in. They have a piano to the immediate right, where from Wednesday to Saturday they offer live music, and it is very much a white tablecloth type of establishment. Even when ordering happy hour, they offer you not only a cloth napkin for your lap, but one for underneath your plate. 

Despite the opulent surroundings, many people were dressed casually. It was not at all crowded on this visit, but it was also on a Sunday and not at a peak after-work time. They offer three seating areas for happy hour: the bar, high tables around the bar and the patio outside facing Canon Dr. All of the options had ample amounts of seating, so you can likely have your pick. The bar also had two large, clear TVs on either side in case you want to catch a game.

Strawberry Lemonade

Wolfgang's features eight cocktails for $8 in addition to wine and beer for happy hour. There are some familiar faces, like a margarita and moscow mule, some twists on originals like an Acai Cosmo, and some unique concoctions. Six of the eight drinks are vodka based, so your options are a little limited alcohol-wise. 

I tried the Strawberry Lemonade, which came in a martini glass with a lemon garnish. The name is a little misleading, as it mostly tasted of fresh strawberry and mint, with no hints of sweetness or lemon. The taste of alcohol was strong, more like a martini than a mixed drink on ice. Overall, the drink was well mixed; not in the upper echelon of hand-crafted drinks, but not a syrupy mess from a mix.

Wolfgang's offers seven food items with meat, all for $8. In addition, we were served fresh baked chips before the food that were warm and difficult to stop eating. I tried the burger sliders and the steak sliders, both of which came with shoestring fries and were meal-sized. 

The burger sliders were solid--the meat was high quality and it came with a pickle and a generous amount of ketchup. The steak sliders were phenomenal. The steak was very high quality, and the onion roll it came on was a nice compliment. Steak is a pretty rare find on a happy hour menu; to be able to get it from one of the best steakhouses in town is a great bonus. 

The service at Wolfgang's was top-notch, as to be expected from a 40-year waiter-turned-owner. Sitting at the bar, the bartender was quick, attentive and knowledgable about the dishes. A manager also stopped by in the middle of the meal to check and see that everything had come out well. The food was also served extremely fast. 

One amenity worth checking out: in the extremely opulent bathrooms, they have large private stalls
with toilets that have a built in bidet and heated seats. The controls are a little confusing at first, but once you figure it out, it's nothing short of life-changing. Just the icing on the cake of this experience. 

Go For:
- Meal-sized gourmet steakhouse food and complimentary chips
- Satiating a desire for vodka among opulent surroundings
- Service that makes you feel extremely important
- Relieving yourself in luxury

Potential or Actual Kitschy Name for their Happy Hour: Canapes and Cocktails on Canon

Parking: Before 6, there is a free lot right next to the restaurant, after 6 your best bet is the Beverly Canon gardens for $2. On Sunday, the lots off Santa Monica are free.

Pros: Dinner-sized steakhouse food at a reasonable price in a very upscale environment. 

Cons: Cocktail variety somewhat lacking, no options for the non-carnivores among us except the chips.
